Varsity basketball team gets ready for tourney

Team gets pumped up

Noah Whitaker, Sports Writer

The 2016-2017 season has been record setting for the Grove City Christian Eagles. The Eagles were ranked in the top five for most of the season as they had big victories over St. Francis De Sales and Harvest Prep. The season has been record setting but in the rematch of the Warriors and the Eagles the Warriors came out on top in overtime ending the teams winning streak. Then only a few days later the Eagles faced the Wellington Jaguars and fought  hard but lost to Wellington who has started to improve as transfers have become eligible.

The team did bounce back as they defeated league opponent Berne Union and non-league opponent Newark Catholic. As the season comes to and end the Eagles are looking to repeat as league champions and get a high seed in the tournament. On February 10 GCC takes on rivals 9-9 Fairfield Christian. The leading scorers for the season are Brandon Baker and Matt Bailey and big man Noah Tomlinson has been the main assist man. This season the Eagles are also looking to break there own record for wins, they have tied the record at 17-3. Hope to see the Eagles win the league and go far in the tournament go Eagles!!
